This weekend, Hazewinkel (BEL) was home to the last tournament in the ECA cup. The cup is a measurement for national teams on where they stand, to test against other teams and to get even more experience.

The cup is a mix of 3 tournaments (1 in France, 1 in Germany and 1 in Belgium). Points are awarded to national teams based on their result, and the sum is made to see who wins the ECA cup.
Because there is a European Champs later this year, it’s a nice preview of what to expect.

Many people in different disciplines wax their boat to gain more speed or any other advantage. Does this waxing actually help or is it just a waste of money?

We’ll have to make a distinction between the different disciplines whether or not waxing helps. Starting off with racing, the main purpose of waxing the hull of your kayak is an increase in speed. Several tests have concluded that waxing by itself doesn’t really change much, however, if your boat has light scratches and dents, waxing the hull can make the surface smoother, which in turn results in more speed.

The ECA Cup is a series of 3 tournaments where national teams participate. The ranking of each tournament is used to make a final ranking for the ECA Cup.
Belgium did not participate in the first tournament. The second one was this weekend in Saint Omer (France) and Belgium participated with a Men and a Men U21 team.

Belgium Men had 6 group games.
The first game, against The Netherlands, was lost with 6 – 2. The Netherlands ended 2nd in the competition. The next game vs Italy was lost with 4 – 1. The Italians ended up winning the tournament. So the first 2 games were though.
